Sturdy compact with a wide-angle lens

Sturdy and sophisticated design, 28-200mm lens with stabilisation, incredible LCD display

Noise very prominent at ISO 400 and above, some oversharpening

While the Ricoh R8 offers a few excellent features such as the 28-200mm lens and the brilliant LCD screen, its images have a few issues that mean it may not be right for everyone.

Ricoh R8 review

The Ricoh R8 is an overhauled version of last year's Caplio R7, which successfully placed a 7x zoom lens on the front of a pocket-sized camera body.

If you want a small camera with a big lens and screen, the Ricoh R8 is worth considering, especially if you need up to 7x optical zoom from a compact camera. A much improved rear screen adds to this sturdily built camera.
