Klipsch S4i II review: Same impressive sound, better cord design

With the $99 Image S4i II earphones, Klipsch has improved upon its highly rated S4 model with a new tangle-resistant, more durable flat cord.

The ; in-ear headphones have the same impressive sound and fit as the original S4i model but they're more durable and have a tangle-resistant flat cord. There's an integrated Apple-friendly remote/microphone and they come with a nice, compact carrying...

Opt for other models in the S4 line if you want Android compatibility or better sweat resistance; bass lovers probably won't be satisfied by the amount of bass.

The Klipsch Image S4i II in-ear headphones add a new, more durable tangle-resistant flat cord while retaining the S4 model's very respectable sound quality and superior comfort.

Klipsch Image S4 II review

Combining a comfortable fit with excellent sound for the money, Klipsch's original Image S4 and S4i earphones have long been among our favorites here at CNET. But the one knock against them is that they just don't hold up that well over time, a...

The Klipsch Image S4 II in-ear headphones have the same impressive sound and fit as the original S4 model but they're more durable and have a tangle-resistant flat cord. They also come with a nice, compact carrying case.

No inline remote/microphone (available in step-up S4i); bass lovers probably won't be satisfied by the amount of bass.

Klipsch Image S4 II ( White)

Enter the Image S4 and S4i II , which look and sound exactly the same as the original S4s, except for one difference: a new flat cord that's both tangle-resistant and more durable.

Popular Klipsch S4i earphones get sporty

The $99 Klipsch S4i Rugged earphones may not be the best for running outdoors, but they're a good choice for the gym and everyday use.

The ; in-ear headphones have the same impressive sound and fit as the original S4i model but they're more durable and have a sweat-resistant design. There's an integrated Apple-friendly remote/microphone and they come with a nice, compact carrying case.

While the larger remote is easier to operate by feel, it does dangle and knock around a bit when you're running; the inline remote isn't compatible with many Android smartphones.

While serious runners may find that the S4i Rugged in-ear headphones won't stay in their ears that securely, they're an excellent pair for gym and everyday use.

Klipsch Image S4i review: Klipsch Image S4i

Klipsch Image S4i

The Klipsch Image S4i earphones offer exceptional sound quality for the money. They're also very comfortable and, the package includes a few handy extras such as a storage box and cleaning tool. Plus, there's a call answer button, mic, and iPod...

The cable of the Image S4i earphones is pretty thin and tangle-prone, and the included eartips may not work for everyone.

The Klipsch Image S4i earphones offer up sound quality on par with and better than sets that cost many times as much, and they include compelling extras for iPhone and iPod users.

Klipsch Image S4i (II): good value sound, but a slightly awkward shape

We had hoped that the flat cord would miraculously stop that noise transference to your ear due to the cable rubbing on your clothing as you walk. We found that most of the noise was the sound of the earbuds pulling against our ears, rather than the...

Flat cord seems to produce less feedback than other in-ear headphones

The headphones fit better the wrong way round; not great for phone calls

Speaking of the other Klipsch headphones, we’ve been spoilt by the Klipsch X10i’s, which cost a LOT more. At the end of the day S4i (II) headphones are £89.99 compared to £250, so we would be wrong to expect anything like that quality of audio....

"Terrible "Customer Service" Quit working after 3 weeks and they don't care."

Head phones have mediocre sound at best. One side quit working after 3 weeks. Klipsch customer support is slow, makes you jump through hoops and then finally will not replace the earphones as they say that the seller is not an "authorized dealer".
