Toshiba SD5700

DVD-A and HDCD capable; MP3 CD playback support; very good progressive-scan video performance; aspect-ratio control.

Artifacts in 4:3 interlaced mode; no bass management with DVD-A.

The added HDCD support and marginally superior design don't give the SD5700 much of a leg up on the lower priced SD4700. But if you can find it for $250 or less, it's worth strongly considering.

Worth Twice its Price

Price. Great Picture. Progressive. Onboard Dolby Digital decoder. MP3s, DVD-A, HDCD.

Unhelpful manual. Cheapish remote.

This player has to be the best player I have seen yet! The picture quality is fantastic! Deep, dark blacks, great detail, and it's progressive! When compared with my Sony- both in interlace mode, there wasn't much picture quality worth mentioning,...

Overall, I have to say this really is a great player for the $. I have had it now for about a week.

Great DVD/DVD-A player for the price

No support for SVCD. MP3 filename truncation, static encountered (see below)

SD 5700 (vs SD3750 and Pana RP56)

 

I purchased a Toshiba SD5700, after having first tried a Panasonic RP56, and a Toshiba SD3750.

Many features including progressive scan, DVD Audio, MP3, and HDCD support

No SVCD support. MP3 file listing is 1st 8 characters. No total disk time indicator.
