Good enough at the price

Remember I've only had this about 24 hours. Bought the box for a cheap toy linux environment, fully aware that people have sometimes complained about Foxconn mobo support for linux. Tried some light websurfing off various thumbdrive boots and was...

Inexpensive: you can buy this barebone with 2gb RAM and 250gb hdd and have a working box for somewhat under $200. Easy to assemble: proceeding carefully, might take an hour if you're slow. Boots quickly enough. BIOS straightforward. Doesn't take very...

Depending, you may have trouble with booting from a thumbdrive. Maybe depends on particular thumbdrive, OS or bootloader used. A Centon Datastick Pro booted every time I tried it; a 2gb Verbatim sometimes booted and sometimes didn't; various makes and...

Update

This is an update to a previous review. I forgot to mention that it uses about 52W with the factory PSU and (2)7200rpm disks. The fans could be a little quieter, but they are not unbearable.

Low power

None

Ok, but had troubles

If the power supply didn't die from only being on for 8 hours, I would have given this 5 eggs. Since the system doesn't work without a power supply (duh), I cannot rate this too high since it died almost immediately. Thankfully, I had a spare desktop...

Great formfactor PC, easy to setup and use, etc

Power supply died from only 8 hours of use. Really really not happy with the product and I'm currently looking for a 3rd party PSU that will fit instead of going with Foxconn. Did not have a pleasant experience when talking with them on the phone

LOUD power supply

Earth to Foxxconn! People buy Atom computers because they either want a silent system OR they want a power effcient system. This is neither! I may end up returning this, I'm undecided at this time.

Smallish, good looking, system fans are quiet and have user control via the BIOS, snappy performance

The power supply is LOUD. Louder than my whole quad-core desktop machine. The p/s fan blows and blows and hardly even moves any air. The whole system with a 1TB WD Green drive spinning draws 40 watts at the wall. That's as much as my Core2Duo laptop...

Bad PSU after 6 months

Would make a nice basic PC for web surfing, email and some music and video playing. I ran Ubuntu 10.4 before installing free NAS. Ran very comfortably. HD fits in sideways. Pull out the CD drive cage before attempting to install memory or HD.

Ran FreeNAS for 6 months with no problem. Good fileserver, Torrent and music server. Fairly quiet and responsive

After 6 months the PSU fan starting making lots of noice. This is the only thing that moves air in the case. No case fan. So after a lot of research I replaced the PSU with an HP replacement part P 447402-001 250W PFC Power Supply ; New PSU much more...

Check the Power Supply

You would think the manufacturer of these would know they are being sold in the USA and would send them configured for 115 volts.

Atom Processor, small footprint. Runs Windows 7 pro very well. Good system for the price

POWER SUPPLY COMES SET FOR 230 VOLTS ; Won't boot if ANY drives connected to power. BE SURE AND SWITCH POWER SUPPLY TO 115 VOLTS

Pretty decent home server

I quite like this box. I purchased during a shell shocker with 1GB Ram. I didn't like the fact it was set to 220V. I hadn't read any of the other reviews to see that this might be an issue so I RMA'd my Hard drive. Come to find out it was the switch...

Atom Dual Core ; Small Form Factor ; Price

Only one true spot for a 3.5" drive (Second is for a media card reader) ; Voltage set at 220V ; Not Free

Foxconn R10-D2

fast. Ubuntu 10.10 installed great. Haven't got a clue how to get WinXP Update 2 on here

shipped with 220V enabled. Thought it was dead, until I read review here. Seems to be no way to install WinXP on this out of the gate

Foxconn R20-G4 Supports 65W for Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo processors Intel Socket T(LGA775) Intel G41 Intel GMA X4500 Barebone

The alternate Foxconn models with the circular power button on the front is a better design.

Works, looks good, small and light ; All the on-board components work great out-of-the-box in Ubuntu ; The Intel X4500 is a great video card for Ubuntu. The open-source drivers from Intel work well for this card ; Very good value

Without a CD drive the front panel does not feel sturdy. When I press on the top of the case (laying flat) the front panel CD drive cover pops out ; Putting a vent in the case directly over the CPU might make sense for heat dispersion, but it invites...
