HP Pavilion Elite m9600t

Although the HP Pavilion Elite m9600t offers components and performance that are the envy of lesser value PCs, it can't compete against similarly configured machines. Several rivals beat it in performance; and even worse, some models crush the $1460...

Excellent general and gaming performance ; Wide variety of connections

Far too pricey given the performance ; Upgrades hampered by poor design, poor wiring

HP Pavilion Elite m9600t

The inside of the HP Pavilion Elite m9600t packs in Core i7 power, but its exterior styling is starting to look dated.

Multimedia ports up the wazoo. External drive bays. Two eSATA ports. Core i7 performance. 15-month Norton Internet Security subscription.

Cramped internal expansion space. Crapware. Styling is becoming stagnant.

HP Pavilion Elite m9600t

If you associate mediocrity with "middle of the road," then Hewlett-Packard's midrange, midtower m9600t will surprise you. Though not the fastest gamer in its genre, it's packed with enough extras to please.

Major expandability and connectivity options; 64-bit Vista; Core i7 processor

Hard drive is "only" 750GB; poor cable routing

HP Pavilion Elite m9600t Review

Intel released their latest microarchitecture, the Nehalem-based Core i7 platform, in November of last year.

HP is trying to attract consumers by offering features you don't typically find on other manufacturers' desktops, like the multiple media drive bays, card readers as standard features, and the really great charging station. The m9600t is their first...
