Shuttle XPC Prima SX48P2

Mike Jennings takes Shuttle's latest gaming chassis for a test drive. It looks great, but is it practical?

"The Sound"

So, I get this shiny little sucker in the mail and proceed to carefully insert my components to it. First boot up, seems to work fine.. I'm watching the mother board and seeing it come to life for the first time. I begin hearing this high pitched...

A bare bones system that potentially can work with your parts

A bare bones system that will become your fault even if it's their fault

Love it

I normally run 2 VMs in VMware on boot, & this has been running them well. The only problem is my HDD. Its a bit slow for Win7 & VMs. Mai Rig: CPU: Intel Q9400 2.66GHz [@ 2.9GHz] RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 4GB [8GB Total] OS: Windows 7 64bit GPU: Nvidia...

Wireless internet [Realtek] allows me to shove the PC in a closet ; This thing is smaller than I thought! I fit the PC in a suitcase to game at my friends' house ; Prettyful

Fingerprint Reader software unsupported on my OS. I dont blame Shuttle though. MS is making so many OSes, its hard to keep up ; Included Bluetooth adapter doesnt support a few of my devices. Again, it might be the driver not compatible with the OS

Shuttle Prima XPC SX48P2-Deluxe Intel Socket T(LGA775) Intel X48 Black Barebone - Retail

If you plan to use this Corsair XMS3 like I did (I got 8GB, it's on Shuttle's compatibility list) save yourself a week of random BSOD's and set the voltage to 1.8V in your BIOS.

SFF, obviously. DDR3 support. 2 x eSATA. Low noise heat pipe CPU cooler. Stealth drive lever to operate your optical disc open/close button works much better than my older Shuttle. It never could really work with my drive so I always used software...

No onboard video or Firewire. Fan slightly louder at idle than the older Shuttle that this SX48P2 Deluxe is replacing.

Powerhouse Shuttle

I haven't built a new rig for personal use/gaming since the sn85g4 (I know!!!!!). So its no suprise that the e8600 ran circles around my old amd64 3700+ 754pin. Also: For users scared of having to chop up a 4pin atx connector to get a gtx280 to fit in...

The SX48P2 Deluxe comes with all the bells and whistles ; 1. ddr3 support ; 2. HD Audio ; 3. Bluetooth ; 4. Fingerprint Reader (for password challenged folks....like everyone's parents.....haha) ; 5. Dual Nics (that can be teamed) ; 6. Wireless Nic ;...

Am having some trouble getting the ram working at 1600. I was able to set the 7-7-7-18 settings, but can't get the cpu/dram ratio set properly to get it up to 1600Mhz. but 1333 will be fine for now, and if I can't get it up to 1600, I'm not going to...

One annoying discovery was that the utilities for the the finger-print reader don't support 64 bit! I'm still trying to figure out how to get around this.

The order / shipping process was great. The everything arrived safe and sound, exactly when it was supposed to.

It would have been nice if they could have fit one PCI slot in there, and as has been mentioned in other reviews, the power is marginal for two high-end video cards.

Good Build

Love this box. I had an SN95G5 for many years and for all it's many flaws I still loved that little computer. I liked the portability and compactness of that unit. So when it was time to upgrade (old one was still AGP), I looked around for something...

Great Size

Small form factor may put some off.

Sleek and slippery fast

This is my forth Shuttle, they are addictive..

Expected perfection in build quality and beautiful understated design from Shuttle, this baby is quick with the Intel Quad 3.0GHz Q9650 and 8GB RAM, Vista x64 raid 0... Smooth and pleasantly quiet running 4 22" monitors with a fanless video adapter

If you want to update your BIOS, don't use the Shuttle winflash utility with Vista as you may corrupt the BIOS, Shuttle sent me a new one for nominal charge. Instead use the DOS based utility and save the hassle
