Works like a champ

I set the bar appropriately when buying this for my 15 year old. He does like to play games, but he is not a hardcore PC gamer, so there was no need for a high-end laptop. The kid has an Xbox for Assassins Creed, CoD, etc. However, the dedicated...

Dedicated Graphics, Quad-Core CPU, 4 GB RAM

Lower-End graphics (Not gaming machine per se), less than 1 TB HDD, Loaded with Acer bloatware apps

Ok for the price.

I switched to Linux Mint 17.1 which is based on Ubuntu 14.04 but you can select Linux Kernel 3.16 which is does have support for the touchpad. I cannot speak for any other distributions of linux.

Runs Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 well. It was $400 at the time plus the dedicated gpu works moderately well and it feels built pretty solid, probably because there are no access doors for the memory or hard drive

Even though it states on the Acer website they work with Ubuntu, be warned that if you want LTS release of Ubuntu 14.04 the touchpad doesn't work with the kernel 3.13 and Ubuntu 14.10 runs like a brick. Also, let me state that this touchpad is an awful...

Update

I feel I was too harsh earlier.

Cheapest dedicated graphics I could find

First thing I noticed was the touchpad is horrible, initially I thought I just had to get used to it, but no, it's just very unresponsive and choppy. I cannot stand using it without a mouse. Also I may be alone in this, but having the click button be...

Disappointed

All other purchases from Newegg have been excellent, this however has been a complete disappointment.

Cheap Dedicated Graphics

Overall a great computer. If your thinking of upgrading the hard drive, memory, etc. Be prepared to tear into it.

Cheap, its really cheap ; dedicated graphics, nice keyboard and feels sturdy

difficult teardown - only the battery is easy access ; I wanted to replace the hard drive with a SSD, so i had to take all the screws out, and pop off the top with keyboard and mouse pad attached. 4 ribbon cables, including one directly over the hard...

Good storage & fast SSD, but poor CPU, tinny speakers and very sensitive touchpad

I bought this to replace a desktop PC which I wasn't using very much upstairs, and thought it might make better sense to have a laptop I could use downstairs where I spend more of my time in the evening. On the plus side this machine generally boots up...
