A 32-inch Toshiba TV that's more than good enough for the price

Crazy cheap for what's on offer ; Minimal, space-saving design ; Picture quality isn't bad ; Freeview HD tuner

Backlight inconsistencies ; Audio is a bit flat ; Toshiba Places needs more content

The more time goes by, the cannier Toshiba seems to get at understanding the needs of specific sections of the UK TV market. The Toshiba 46TL868 tested recently did a great job of catering for people wanting a good-sized active 3D screen on the cheap.

This is yet another 32in LED TV from Toshiba that does the business. Whether specced as the centre-piece of a smallscale surround sound setup or plonked in a second room, it offers a heady mix of thoughtful design, watchable pictures and bonus...

Toshiba’s TV marries a considerable brightness output with a fine black level response, while colours are well saturated. All this equates to good picture performance, particularly with HD, and there are calibration tools aplenty ; The slim, silver...

Very dark scenes do highlight a few backlight inconsistencies – I noticed areas of the picture appearing brighter than others ; The set can’t match its HD performance with SD material – while TV fare looks quite sharp, it’s susceptible to blocking...

Default settings were a little too bright but a bit of tinkering sorted that Picture was a little blurred on default setting but now ok after sharpening the picture Only had the set a week, so no other bad points have arrisen
