Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition review

The XPS 8900 does what it needs to do at a lower price than the competition. For many, that'll be all that matters.

Let’s clear something up right away. The XPS 8900 is not a gamer’s dream machine. Its lack of upgradability is a problem that will cause hesitation among enthusiasts. Game performance is strong, but the Core i5-6400 in our test machine is no...

Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition

If you're looking for a gaming PC that can handle VR, The Oculus-certified Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition has a relatively small and sleek design and offers good 1080p gaming performance without breaking the bank.

Reasonably priced. Sleek, compact case. Open slots and bays for upgrades. Good performance.

No solid-state drive. Only a single GPU.

Conclusion The Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition is a reasonably priced, well-designed gaming desktop with speedy performance. It doesn't stack up to more expensive systems in its class, and is missing extras like an SSD, and more memory, but it's a good...

Dell XPS 8900 is a VR-ready desktop for less

Hitting the Oculus Rift minimum required specs means this desktop is ready for VR, at least on paper.

The XPS 8900 is a decent-looking desktop tower with reasonable expandability. It's only $999 as part of an Oculus Rift bundle, and includes a very good graphics card.

This VR-on-a-budget configuration may feel dated quickly as VR games become more ambitious. The Core i5 CPU holds this system back from being a PC-gaming workhorse.

One of the least-expensive Oculus-ready PCs, the Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition hits the required specs for virtual reality, but just barely.

Dell service isn't the same as it used to be

I recently bought XPS 8900 from Dell. I wanted to replace the hard drive to SSD. I bought SSD from Dell website and the SSD failed after 45 days. Dell said the SDD was past 30 days and they couldn't help. Dell service gave me the runaround. Be very...

Hard Drive is HDD which is very slow. Dell Service isn't what it used to be.

Great slim looking product.

Almost Everything is good.

There is like no space inside for a 970 sized graphics card. low space and had to unplug 1 cable in order for it to fit.

DELL x8900-1444BLK

I would definitely recommend this tower.

Wonderful system for the money. Great features at a good price. I've had an old tower for a long time and I noticed immediately how powerful the i7 processor was. The tower is very quiet while it runs. This is true even when I pushed the cup to use...

You'll need to upgrade eventually i.e. Adding ram and another video card.

Not A Bad Way To Get Into VR

This review is for the XPS8900 Special Edition for VR - I bought the i5-6400 / 8GB RAM / 1 TB HDD model with an Oculus Rift. Basically, this system represents the recommended minimum for the "Full Rift Experience" so games like Project Cars and EVE...
