OK laptop - bad OS

 

Bought this, after much research as a gift for my wife at Christmas. Probably should have research Windows 10 better, too invasive and buggy (still!) Randomly hitting the interest, phoning home to Microsoft,mysterious drop outs from my WLAN and...

Skylake processor, touch screen, display is sharp, no dead pixels.

Great laptop for the price

 

I swapped my spinning disk out with a 1TB SSD on the first day I got it. It cost me $200 and turned this laptop into a screamer.

Solid feeling laptop with a big, bright screen. The viewing angle is quite good on the screen. The backlit keyboard is something that I've missed on the last couple of laptops that I've had.

I wish it came with an SSD drive.

Reasonably-priced laptop would be perfect with an SSD!

 

Was actually kind of disappointed in the performance of this laptop since I bought it to replace an old Dell laptop from 2011 (i3, 4GB, integrated) with one major caveat: I had upgraded the old one from 4200rpm HDD to an SSD. This thing would...

High-end i7 processor, 15.6" touch-screen, 8GB RAM, dedicated Radeon graphics card, back-lit keyboard, still has a DVD drive, having a number pad took some getting used to compared to my last 15" laptop.

Guess I must have missed it, but the dedicated card is part of a hybrid graphics system, so it still eats up a small portion of RAM for the integrated portion that runs 99% of the time (probably a good thing for battery life).

It comes with 4 GB of RAM which I upgraded with a second OEM 4 GB stick for a total of 8 GB. Not totally necessary, I just prefer 8 GB so it never gets hung up. OEM RAM is a single stick of Samsung M471B5173EB0-YK0. I cannot speak to the performance of...

Not really much to complain about here; a lot of value for the price. The battery is kinda dinky but seems to last several hours, and the finish on the keyboard bezel is kinda... sticky? It's hard to describe, but it's really not too bad.

It's much faster than my previous laptop (Dell Studio / Vista) so I spend less time on my work. At 76, I hoped that the Studio would have lasted until I gave up computing. It is much lighter than the Studio. I was surprised how quickly I could manage...
