Samsung Galaxy S II review

A fine phone and worthy champion – but the new kids have upped the ante

Light ; slim ; big screen ; dynamic, colourful video ; new Kies wireless software is neat

Lacks premium feel ; audio can be bettered ; no longer the latest Android OS

Samsung Galaxy S II (T-Mobile) review

Editors' note: Portions of this review were taken from our evaluations of the other Samsung Galaxy S II models. Additionally, due to changes in the competitive marketplace, we've lowered the overall rating of this product from 8.7 to 8.3.

The Samsung Galaxy S II supports T-Mobile's faster HSPA+ network and has a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and an NFC chip. The Android Gingerbread smartphone also has a spacious and vibrant Super AMOLED Plus touch screen, 16GB of internal memory, and great...

The smartphone is high-priced and on the larger side, and you can't remove bloatware.

The Samsung Galaxy S II ranks as one of T-Mobile's most powerful and feature-rich Android smartphones, but it's somewhat pricey.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II Review: A High-Quality, Top-of-the-Line Phone

Considering the massive screen, the crazy-powerful processor, and the NFC and 4G support, it's hard not to fall in love with the Samsung Galaxy S II on T-Mobile. Available for '20 with a new two-year contract (as of October 10, 2011), the Galaxy S II...

Massive and colorful display ; Extremely powerful mobile processor ; NFC chip

No MicroSD card included ; Small bezel around the screen

Like the rest of the Galaxy S II series, the Galaxy S II on T-Mobile is one of the best phones currently available, hands down.

Samsung Galaxy S II (AT&T)

The ; boasts a beautiful display and a thin design. With a dual-core processor, the Gingerbread device delivers fast performance, as well as good battery life. Camera quality is excellent.

Samsung Galaxy S II (unlocked) review

Since its first Galaxy iteration, Samsung has taken the line of slick black smartphones and run with it, straight down the production line, to produce one blockbuster after another. The cell phone maker wasted little time spinning off variations, from...

The Samsung Galaxy S II has a speedy dual-core processor, a large, gorgeous display, 4G capability, and excellent cameras. It's also up-to-date with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The Samsung Galaxy S II lacks a hardware camera button, and you need to remove to battery to access the microSD card slot. Call quality could be better.

Despite a few complaints, the Samsung Galaxy S II hits all the high notes, making the unlocked handset Samsung's most advanced and successful smartphone to date.

Samsung Galaxy S II 4G

The Galaxy S II 4G represents the best of last year's technology. It's fast, in more ways than one, and battery life is good. But when you're paying full price, don't you want the latest and greatest?

Great performance. Solid battery life. Great 4G speeds, when in coverage. Good 8-megapixel camera.

Slightly thicker and heavier than the Galaxy S II. Larger screen needs a higher resolution. Older version of Android.

The Galaxy S II 4G represents the best of last year's technology. It's fast, in more ways than one, and battery life is good, but when you're paying full price, don't you want the latest and greatest?

Samsung Galaxy S II

Samsung builds well on the success of the original Galaxy with a fast, attractive and fully featured phone, but one that requires a lot of juice to run.

Lightning-fast performance. Super AMOLED Plus is fantastic. Camera is amongst the best we've seen. TouchWiz 4.0 has some neat shortcuts.

Battery life is disappointing. Video out requires a separate adapter.

If it wasn't for its disappointing battery life, the Galaxy S II would be our favourite phone of the year to date. Samsung builds on the success of the original Galaxy with a really fast, attractive and fully featured phone, but one that requires a lot...
