Anthem MRX700 review

Canada: a land of sweeping mountains, pine forests and ice hockey, where maple syrup rules and giant moose walk the streets. But what the country is becoming increasingly famous for is its rather tasty AV equipment.

Fantastically engaging sound; excellent ARC EQ system; exceptional build

Complex to set up, frugal features; low HDMI count

Anthem MRX 700 review

With its quirky and complex setup, the ARC-based 7.1-channel AV receiver causes audio-induced euphoria

Fantastically engaging sound ; Excellent ARC EQ system ; Exceptional build

Complex to set up ; Frugal features ; Low HDMI count

With the ARC tuned to perfection, the MRX 700 establishes a new standard of sonic performance at this price point, and leaves the rest of the pack sounding a little lacklustre by comparison.

I must admit I was a bit perplexed by the MRX 700 AV receiver at first, for right off the bat it appears to be a touch over-priced, low on power and packing half of the bells and whistles that many of its competition. However having lived with it now...

Anthem MRX 700 A/V Receiver

When I hear “Anthem,” I also usually hear “ka-ching!” Anthem's Statement D2v surround processor sells for a cool $8,500, which is enough cash to keep a Colorado hippie blazing in medical marijuana for years. The MRX 700 is the company's welcome foray...

No 7.1 Analogue input ; No DSD over HDMI ; Build quality is solid, but unremarkable
